sazquatch:

If you are a rape-apologist, please unfollow me now.

Let me elaborate on that:

  1. If you think that any victim of sexual assault ever ‘asked for it’ by being drunk/flirty/dressed provocatively/having said yes before/being in a relationship with the person who violates them.
  2. If you think rape or sexual assault is ever partially the survivor’s fault.
  3. If you ever privilege the rights of the rapist over the rights of the survivor.
  4. If you think that survivors lie about being raped for attention, because they are ‘too ugly to be raped’, or for any other reason.
  5. If you think that there’s only a certain way for survivors to act, and if someone is responding differently to that, they must be lying.
  6. If you ever think that the survivor’s race/gender/orientation/socio-economic status/weight/occupation means that their rape or assault was ‘expected’ or less-serious.
  7. If you defend your right to make rape jokes/refuse to make trigger warnings because ‘people take this shit too seriously’.
  8. If you think survivors should just get over it.
  9. If you think that survivors naming their rapist is ‘ruining their (the rapist’s) life’.

If any of these apply to you, you should probably unfollow me because I want nothing to do with you.

Aw I made this post a few months ago, and it got a flurry of new notes last night. So that’s nice :)

Not being assaulted is not a privilege to be earned through the judicious application of personal safety strategies. A woman should be able to walk down the street at 4 in the morning in nothing but her socks, blind drunk, without being assaulted, and I, for one, am not going to do anything to imply that she is in any way responsible for her own assault if she fails to Adequately Protect Herself. Men aren’t helpless dick-driven maniacs who can’t help raping a vulnerable woman. It disrespects EVERYONE. Emily Nagoski (via lilac-hour)

This is why I don’t go to the barely pubescent for adult advice.

and this is why I don’t like justin bieber.

Why, instead of focusing all your criticisms on a child, are you not focusing on the magazine who felt it appropriate to ask this? How does it at all relate to his music career? Evidently he felt put on the spot. How else is he supposed to respond when he has been pushed into the role of ‘Christian poster boy’? I don’t agree with his comments, but focus needs to be on the magazine as well.

If I were a victim of crime, I don’t think I could live with myself if the person who attacked me found another victim because I did nothing. If I were that secondary victim, I would have a very hard time not pinning blame on a prior victim who let him get away. Rosemary Rue.
Shaming survivors for protecting themselves is never appropriate, you are a terrible person. It is not up to survivors to stop perpetrators, you’re just piling guilt onto people who have already been victimised.

Sexual assault is not only a crime of violence and power, but also one of entitlement. So long as men feel entitled to dominate women’s bodies, sexual assault will continue.

Suspected Teen Rape Victim Jailed

(NEWSER) – A 17-year-old suspected rape victim is being held in a California juvenile detention facility to ensure that she’ll show up to testify against her attacker. She failed to turn up at a preliminary hearing for her suspected assailant, forcing prosecutors to refile the case. “The last thing we ever want to do is put a victim or a witness in custody, but when you have serious crimes of violence and multiple offenses, you have to balance the protection of the community,” Sacramento County assistant district attorney tells ABC News.

A judge filed the order to hold the girl—who has been raised in foster homes and has a history of running away—as a material witness over three weeks ago. “I think it’s outrageous that the DA’s office wants to put a rape victim—a juvenile rape victim—in custody, as if she were the criminal, in a case where she is the victim,” the girl’s attorney told the Sacramento Bee.
