I feel like people will be ‘immersed’ in rape culture when victim-blaming and slut-shaming no longer exist, when rape stops being permitted because of what she was wearing/drinking, or because of the victim’s sexuality.I feel like maybe people will appreciate rape culture when huge percentages of college-aged men no longer respond to surveys saying they would rape women if they had the chance, so long as the word ‘rape’ isn’t used in the question.Maybe people will be immersed in rape culture when it’s not seen as sexy to harm a woman, and when people stop telling women to ‘expect’ street harassment, or to ‘stop over-reacting because that’s just how it is’.Until then, shut the fuck up with your bitching about awareness of rape culture. Oh, we’re ruining your fun with making people realise that what they’re seeing/saying is really fucked up? That just reflects poorly on you buddy, to be more concerned with people making a big deal of it than you are with rape itself.
But of course, when rape affects countless women especially PoC, and the LBGTQ+ community, we shouldn’t pick apart our surroundings to understand the permissiveness and rape culture that allows this to happen. Of course, we’re just making a big deal out of nothing. It’s not like millions of women are raped every year, or anything. Yep, noted, we should be quiet about it because we’re ruining your fun, and burying your head in the sand totally makes problems go away. Shut up, this post is toxic.
